COCAFELOL Cooperative: Empowering Farmers with Direct Trade Coffee

At the heart of every cup of coffee from COCAFELOL Cooperative is a commitment to quality, sustainability, and social impact. Founded in 2000 in La Labor, Ocotepeque, Honduras, COCAFELOL (Cooperativa de Caficultores de La Labor) has spent over two decades working alongside smallholder farmers to produce exceptional, high-quality coffee. The cooperative’s mission is clear: to support its members with technical expertise, financial assistance, and a strong market presence, all while ensuring the production of differentiated, premium coffee that meets global standards.

Direct Trade Model: Fair Compensation for Farmers

The '121 Direct Trade' model represents a significant shift from traditional coffee trade practices. Unlike conventional models, which involve several middlemen, each of whom takes a portion of the profit, '121 Direct Trade' ensures that a substantial 70% of the price we pay for the coffee directly reaches the farmer. This structure has far-reaching positive effects, not just for the individual farmers but also for their communities, the environment, and even the end consumer.

Organic and Sustainable Practices

COCAFELOL is also a leader in organic coffee production. The cooperative has invested heavily in sustainable farming practices, helping its members transition to organic agriculture. This not only supports the health of the environment but also enhances the long-term profitability of the farmers by tapping into the growing market demand for organic and environmentally friendly products. Through education and technical support, COCAFELOL encourages its members to embrace eco-friendly practices, ensuring that each cup of coffee contributes to a healthier planet.

Community Impact

COCAFELOL's impact goes beyond coffee cultivation. The cooperative is deeply involved in initiatives that improve the lives of its members and their communities. These include programs focused on improving local infrastructure, supporting education, and fostering social development. By working directly with farmers, COCAFELOL creates opportunities for growth, both for individuals and for the collective community.

The Microlot: Entre Robles

One such unique and highly sought-after offering from COCAFELOL is a microlot produced on the farm of Renan Amílcar Bajurto de Dios, Entre Robles. Located in the fertile highlands of La Labor, this farm produces coffee with distinct flavor profiles that reflect the exceptional growing conditions of the region. Renan’s dedication to quality and sustainable farming practices makes his coffee a perfect example of the kind of excellence that COCAFELOL is committed to showcasing.
